Our 1955 Chevy Kicker premium stereo kit is available in a 4 speaker configuration or a complete, 5 channel kit with a subwoofer. The 4 speaker kit includes a 300 watt amplifier while the 5 channel kit includes a subwoofer and a 600W amp. Each kit includes a 1955 Chevy radio, 1955 Chevy front speaker kick panels with 6.5" Kicker speakers, Kicker 6x9 speakers, an amplifier wiring kit and speaker wire. We built these kits to give you an easy way to get the best sound possible in your 1955 Chevy. Everything is matched up and designed to work well together while offering over $100 in savings. The 300W 4 speaker system is perfect for the customer that wants something that is going to be louder and clearer than just the radio and will give you better sound than most "Premium" new car stereo systems. Even though the amplifier is rated 300 watts and the USA-630 is a 300 watt radio, there really is no comparison to the sound quality. The amplifier will sound night and day better than just the radio.

The 1955 Chevy 5 speaker kit includes everything listed for the 4 speaker kit but upgrades the amplifier to a 600 watt, 5 channel amp and includes a low profile 10" subwoofer enclosure. With the 5 speaker system, you get a little more output to the speakers and the extra 300 watts is used to power the subwoofer for true sub bass response. The subwoofer is perfect for the classic car owner as it gives you good bass, but it doesn't take up your whole trunk, leaving room for storage.

Our 1955 Chevy Kicker stereo kits will not require you to do any crazy custom installation or cut any holes. If you listen to oldies, jazz, or music that doesn't have a lot of bass, the 4 speaker system will likely be the best for your needs. If you listen to classic rock or music that is from the 1970's and newer, the 5 speaker kit is recommended as the subwoofer provides the sub bass response to give you the best listening experience. The subwoofer is enough to sound good and fill that bottom end but it isn't going to rattle your neighbor's house or the car next to you. Instead, you will just get great all around sound quality that is comparable to a good home theater surround sound system.

The Comp RT is worth the extra money. Probably the best value for an enclosure.

Does the amp make that big of a difference?

Yes. It is night and day compared to powering the speakers off of the radio. It is the difference between a stock VW Beetle vs. a brand new Corvette.

How Do I Install the Amplifier?

The amplifier needs power wire to run from the amplifier to the positive terminal on the battery. In addition, the amplifier needs the same size wire to go to ground. The ground can be anywhere, it does not have to be the negative side of the battery. In addition, most amplifiers will need a remote wire that connects to the power antenna or REM wire on the back of the radio. Next, you need to get signal from the radio to the amplifier. You can do that with the RCA outputs on the back of the radio, or you can take the speaker wire leads from the radio and connect them to the amplifier.

Which amplifier should I chose?

The main determining factor to choosing your amplifier will be whether or not you want or need a subwoofer. If you want the subwoofer, choose a 5 channel amplifier, if you don't want a subwoofer, go with a 4 channel amplifier.

Do I need a subwoofer?

Need? No. Does it make your stereo sound significantly better? Yes. Remember that if you have a subwoofer, you can always turn the bass down. If you don't have a subwoofer, it is hard to add more bass if you don't have the speakers designed to play those frequencies. We suggest adding the subwoofer and selecting a 5 channel amplifier. When you have that bottom end and it sounds amazing, you will be glad that you have it.

What would you do if it was your car?

There are 3 go-to paths in our opinion with these kits.
  1. I want it to sound good but I am on a budget: KS Speakers, KEY 180W 4 channel amplifier, no subwoofer.
  2. I want it to sound good, but I don't want to go crazy: KS speakers, CX 600 watt 5 channel amplifier, 10" Comp RT Subwoofer
  3. I want it to really sound good: KS Speakers, KX 800 watt 5 channel amplifier, 10" Comp RT or the 10" Comp RT Down Firing Subwoofer
  4. I want the best stuff you got: KS Speakers, IQ 1000 Watt 5 Channel amplifier, 12" Comp RT Down firing box.


What other wiring or accessories might I need?

If you are choosing to add a subwoofer, add the bass knob. It allows you to adjust the subwoofer level from the driver's seat. All recordings are different with regards to the bass level. The bass knob allows you to dial in the amount of bass for each song. It is almost a must-have.

What if I get the radio and it doesn't fit?

If your dash has NOT been cut, THIS RADIO WILL FIT. There are instances where a vehicle's dash has been cut and when they cut it, they did a really nice job, making it almost impossible to tell. If this happens, do not worry. We can exchange nose-piece adapters and/or adjust the knob spacing to make the radio work. The only time this becomes difficult is if the dash has been cut to a DIN size opening. But, we have solutions for that too.

Does this radio come with a warranty?

The advanced replacement program saves you the time of shipping the radio back, going through the testing process, then shipping the radio back to you. That is no fun, especially when there are only so many months of the year when car shows take place and it is ideal to drive your classic car.
