Rockford Fosgate's Prime R2 shallow-mount subs deliver satisfying bass even in smaller cars where space is tight. A special
Rockford Fosgate's Punch Stage 3 subwoofers come from a long line of high-performance subs that deliver real deal bass. Now, shallow-mount Punch Stage 3 subwoofers make it easier to get impressive low end in smaller or hard-to-fit vehicles.
The Rockford Fosgate R2S subs come in both a 10" and 12" diameter. The Rockford Fosgate P3S subs also come in a 10" and 12" size but also add an 8" sub for sizing flexibility in smaller spaces. If you're looking for an 8" thin-line sub for your install between these two lineups, you'll want to make sure to check out the P3S lineup.
Rockford Fosgate's R2S subs feature both a 2-ohm and 4-ohm dual coil construction in their subwoofer lineup. The P3S subs also feature a dual coil construction but stick only to 4-ohms across the entire line. If you're looking for 2-ohm subwoofers, be sure to stick to looking at the R2S line. Otherwise, you'll be able to compare the 4-ohm subs at the different diameters across the entire two lineups to each other when selecting them for your install.
RMS power handling in the R2S line starts at 200 watts in their 10" model and goes up to 250 watts in their 12" model. For the P3S lineup, the 8" model starts at 150 watts, the 10" model features 300 watts, and the 12" model features 400 watts. If you're looking for some better RMS power handling, you'll want to focus your attention on the upgraded P3S amps from Rockford Fosgate.
While both lineups of subwoofers are meant to be for thin-line installations, the upgraded P3S lineup sees mounting depths almost the same as the R2S line at similar diameters of subs. When comparing the two, you'll want to focus more on the diameter of your subwoofer selection as the mounting depth between lines won't be a factor.
While the mounting depths are relatively even between the two lineups, you will see an added advantage for using smaller enclosure sizes for both sealed and ported enclosures with the upgraded P3S lineup over the R2S lineup. If you're looking to use a smaller enclosure, you'll want to focus your attention on the P3S line when selecting your subs.
The recommended amplifier for your subwoofers will vary greatly depending on the size and quantity of subwoofers you select for your installation. The following lists are comparisons between amplifiers for subwoofers in the same dimensions between the different models. The list begins with a factory recommendation for amps that provide enough power handling for the subwoofer(s), and then move on to our professional recommendations that may vary slightly from the factory recommendations. These Classic Car Stereo recommendations may be an amp with a higher price point that will service the subs better, or an amp that provides RMS power handling over the recommended amount which will allow you to not have to maximize the output on your amp to provide full power to your subs.
Sub: (Qty 1) R2S 10"
There is a fair jump in cost from the R2S lineup from Rockford Fosgate up to the P3S line.
Even though the P3S handle more power, they sound shallow. The R2S is the better subwoofer in our opinion. If you want a low-profile subwoofer and you want Rockford Fosgate, save your money and go with the R2S or pay up for the T1S. But, the T1S are expensive!
