The JL Audio 12W1v3-2 is has a single, 2 ohm voice coil 12 inch subwoofer and offers improved construction and better materials than the W0 line. The W1s have a Mica-filled polypropylene cone, rubber surround, and they are available in both 2 ohm and 4 ohm voice coils. This 12" subwoofer combines JL Audio's hard-hitting bass, affordability, and long term durability, all into one compact, yet impressive, package.
The 12W1v3-2 is designed to work in a sealed enclosure. It features a shallow mounting depth of 5.41" while delivering full-sized output. The compact motor structure, allows it to comfortably fit in a lot of spaces where a typical 12-inch driver will not.
The 12W1v3-2 12" subwoofer is optimized to operate in a compact 1.10 cu. ft. sealed enclosure or a 1.6 cu. ft. ported enclosure.
We recommend this 2 ohm version for single subwoofer applications to maximize the output of your amplifier to a 2 ohm load. You can also use a pair of these subwoofers if you have an amplifier that is 1 ohm stable, but JL does not make a 1 ohm stable amplifier to power the 12W1v3-2. If you are looking for a pair of 12W1 subs, we recommend the 4-ohm version, 10W1v3-4. You can wire the two 4 ohm subwoofers in parallel to a 2 ohm load. If you are powering a single subwoofer, we like the JD250/1, XD300/1v2, RD500/1, and the JD500/1. If you opt for one of the 500 watt amplifiers, be sure that you don't turn the gain up all the way. You don't want to over heat and warp the voice coil with too much power.
JL Audio JD250/1 250 Watt Monoblock Subwoofer Amplifier Class DThe JL Audio JD250/1D delivers raw JL power in a compact, efficient, Class D amplifier. The 250 watt monoblack amplifier is perfect for powering a W1 subwoofer or a smaller 6" or 8" sub. You get 250 watts of power at 2 ohms, 200 watts RMS at 3 ohms, and 150W RMS at 4 ohms. The JD 250/1 uses JL's NexD switching technology for maximum efficiency and minimal distortion. These JD amplifers now feature an LED clipping indicator which allows you to set the gain perfectly without a clipped input or output signal. You will know exactly where your head unit clips to eliminiate input distoration. In addition, the LED clipping indicator allows you to set the gain to the perfect level so you do not get a clipped signal on the output. Together, this ensures maximum life out of your subwoofer(s) by eliminating harmful distortion, the number one reason why subwoofers blow.
The JD250/1 has a 12dB/octave low pass filter and variable frequency selection between 50-500hz. The JD250/1 accepts both high and low level inputs allowing you to use RCA cables or speaker level inputs.
This amplifier is perfect for powering a single 8W1v3 or a 6W3v3-4 subwoofer. These are smaller subwoofers that can deliver the bass you want, but they are rated at 150W RMS with 4 ohms. If you are powering a 10" W0, W1, or larger woofer, you want a JL Audio amp, and you are on a budget, check out the JD500/1. You will be happier with the extra power. It will give you more output to better power those subwoofers with less distortion.
