The JL Audio JD1000/1 is a beast of a 1000 watt, monoblock Class D amplifier from JL at an affordable price point. This 1000 watt monoblack amplifier can power up to 1-4 subwoofers and is stable down to 2 ohms.
You get 1000 watts of power at 2 ohms, 800 watts RMS at 3 ohms, and 600W RMS at 4 ohms.
The JD1000/1 uses JL's NexD switching technology for maximum efficiency and minimal distortion. The Class D circuitry draws less current from your vehicle's electrical system, which means less heat, which means less distortion.
These JD amplifers now feature an LED clipping indicator which allows you to set the gain perfectly without a clipped input or output signal. First, you play the pink noise tracks to determine exactly where your head unit clips. The gives you the volume level to keep your stereo under in order to eliminiate input distoration. If it clips at 46, don't turn your stereo past 46, otherwise the amp will get a clipped input signal, you will get distortion, and you risk blowing your subwoofer and/or your amplifier.
Once you know where your head unit clips, the LED clipping indicator allows you to set the gain to the perfect level so you do not get a clipped signal on the output. You turn the head unit up as loud as it goes without clipping, and turn the gain on the amplifier up until you get a clipped output signal. Then, you turn the gain down until the LED changes color to indicate that it is no longer clipping.
In theory, if you never turn your radio past the clipping level, you should never get a clipped signal, you should eliminate distortion, and ensure that your subwoofers and amplifier last as long as possible. This ensures maximum life out of your subwoofer(s) by eliminating harmful distortion, the number one reason why subwoofers blow.
The JD1000/1 has a 12dB/octave low pass filter and variable frequency selection between 50-500hz. This is pretty standard for crossovers on monoblock amplifiers. Some higher end amplifiers have 24dB/octave filters for a steeper slope and the higher end amplifiers have ultrasonic filters to filter out the super low end frequencies that our ears can't hear, but 12dB/octave is par for the course.
The JD1000/1 accepts both high and low level inputs allowing you to use RCA cables or speaker level inputs. If you have an aftermarket head unit with RCA pre-outs, you can use those. If you don't, you can run the speaker wire inputs from your head unit directly into the amplifier. Please note, if you run the high level, speaker inputs, you will need speaker wire to RCA adapters as the JD1000/1 only accepts RCA connections on the input side.
If you need to power your subwoofers, you are looking for a 1000 watt JL amplifier, but you are on a budget, the JD1000/1 is the perfect amp to give you 1000 watts of output at 2 ohms. There's nothing like JL Audio amplifiers and the JD lives up to the repuation while maintaining an affordable price point.
