This Kicker Comp RT subwoofer kit includes the 10" Kicker 48TRTP102, downfiring Comp RT loaded enclosure, the Kicker CX400.1 400 watt monoblock amp, the option to upgrade the amplifier, a 4 AWG amp wiring kit, and 15 feet of 12 AWG speaker wire. If you want a complete package with one of the best values for all car subwoofers in one of the best sounding and most versatile boxes, this is it.
The Kicker Comp RT 10" downfiring enclosure is the best value among all subwoofer enclsoures. This subwoofer handles 400 watts RMS and has a very shallow mounting depth. Many shallow subwoofer sound "Shallow". The Kicker Comp RT is one of the exceptions. You get the full size output that you expect from a 400 watt subwoofer without needing a big bulky box. The passive radiator that comes with this enclosure delivers the output and performance of a ported enclosure without the port noise. The down firing design of the enclosure is very thin, allowing you to install it behind the seat in single cab trucks or even under the seat of crew cab trucks. If you put the box in the trunk, you can get better-than-expected bass response with the down-firing design and throw all of your stuff on top of the box. The box is sturdy enough to withstand most cargo and because the subwoofer fire down, you don't have to worry about your cargo damaging the subwoofers.
In addition to the utility, the down firing design also delivers better performance. You should get extra boost because the sound waves immediately bounce off of the floor of your vehicle. This leads to better than expected output.
If you are lookig to maximize your dollars and bass output, this is the best bet for the money. Sure, there are more expensive options that will outperform the Comp RT, but apples to apples and when you take the cost into consideration, this one is hard to beat.
The Kicker CX400.1 amplifier is super compact and puts out 300 watts RMS at 2 ohms. This amplifier will provide decent power for the Kicker Comp RT 10" subwoofer. The CX400.1 uses class D circuitry for maximum efficiency and although the subwoofer can handle more power, it will still sound decent with the CX400.1
While the Kicker CX400.1 will do the job, it isn't the best option in our optinion. If it were my own vehicle, I would upgrade the amplifier. The CX800.1 will deliver 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms, the both Rockford Fosgate R2-500X1 and the JL AUdio RD500/1 will deliver 500 watts at 2 ohms. The extra power from the amplifier allows you to keep the gain turned down for cleaner signal and better output. The extra head room, power, and output is worth it in our opinion. There are no bad options here for the upgrades. You get what you pay for. The Rockford R2-500X1 comes with a bass knob and it is our favorite option because of it.
We include a 4 AWG amp wiring kit and 15 feet of 12 AWG speaker wire. The wire used for both the amp wiring kit and the speaker wire is 100% oxygen free copper. Oxygen free copper is the best conductor for the money for automotive electronics. Using 100% oxygen free copper ensures maximum output and performance from both your amplifier and the subwoofer. It doesn't make sense to spend the money on Kicker components and then cheap out with cheap, copper coated aluminum wiring.
The wiring for this subwoofer kit is straightforward. The subwoofer enclosure is pre-wired to a 2 ohm load. Wire positive on the amp to positive on the enclosure. Repeat the same steps for the negative side. You can always switch the wiring to switch the phase 180 degrees, but start off with positive to positive and negative to negative.
