Our Kicker Dual 10" CompVR and CX400.1 Subwoofer Package takes the guess work out of pairing your Kicker subwoofers with a Kicker amplifier. This kit is perfect if you want to add two subwoofers to your vehicle and you either already have a box, or you plan on building a custom one yourself. It includes 2 10" Kicker CompVR subwoofers, a Kicker CX series monoblock amplifier, an amp wiring kit, and 15 ft. of 12 AWG speaker wire.
The 10" Kicker Comp VR is a great value for a step-up subwoofer. The CompVR fits nicely between the Comp C series and the Comp R. With 350 watts RMS power handling, these can handle a little more power and the rigid cone is perfect if you are looking for maximum output for the money.
The Kicker CX series amplifiers deliver tons of power in a full-size, yet compact chassis. These amplifiers use Class D circuitry for maximum efficiency and will provide plenty of power to the subwoofers. The CX400.1 amplifier will work to power the two subwoofers but if it were my vehicle, I would recommend stepping up to the CX800.1. I would rather have too much power and keep the gain turned down versus not having enough amplifier and turning the gain all the way up. It's cheaper and easier to buy the bigger amp now than it is to buy another amplifier down the road becuase you want more power for more bass.
To power and connect the amplifier and subwoofer you will need an amp wiring kit and speaker wire. We include both in this kit. The CX400.1 comes with an 8 AWG amp kit and the CX800.1 comes with a 4 AWG amp kit. We include 15 feet of 12 AWG speaker wire as well. The wire in both the amp kits and the speaker wire is 100% oxygen free copper to ensure the best possible output from both the amplifier and subwoofers. It doesn't make sense to buy a Kicker amplifier and then starve it with cheap, copper coated aluminum wire. When it comes to the wiring kits, you get what you pay for. "Good ain't cheap and cheap ain't good."
The 2 ohm DVC subwooferfs compared to the 4 ohm DVC subwoofers changes the load on the amplifier. We recommend wiring the subwoofers in parallel regardless of which model you choose. The difference is that the amplifier puts out more power at 1 ohm than it does 2 ohms.
There are some people that won't wire to a 1 ohm load because they think that you lose sound quality and the amp works too hard. Other people think that the extra power is worth it because there's no substitute for power. I'd run the amp at a 1 ohm load and take the extra power.
We recommend adding the CXARC bass knob. The bass knob allows you to quickly and easily turn the subwoofer level up or down without fumbling with your head unit. Every song is recorded differently and some songs have a ton of bass while others have none at all. If you are listening to a song with no bass, the bass knob allows you to turn up the subwoofer level to your listening preference. Now, if the next song has a ton of bass, your subwoofers levels might be too high and you might be getting distortion. The bass knob allows you to quickly and easily turn the bass back down to prevent damaging your system.
