The Rockford Fosgate R2-500X4 is the big brother to the R2-300X4 and delivers up to 500 watts RMS to 4 channels and is perfect for powering your speakers with it's ultra-efficient class D power supply. The R2-500X4 is 2 ohm stable putting out 125 watts RMS per channel at 2 ohms and 75 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms.
The R2 Prime amps from Rockford Fosgate feature their CLEAN circuitry which are LED clipping indicators that allow you to set your gains at the perfect level. This will ensure you are getting maximum output from your amplifier without clipping and distortion. In addition to the CLEAN circuitry, the R2-500X4 uses Rockford's POWER supply which is unregulated and delivers higher than RMS rated outputs and increases output as your voltage increases.
This amp delivers a ton of power for the money. We like this amplifier if you are using a little bit better speaker, something that can handle 75 watts RMS. The most common installation will use this amplifier to power four, 4-ohm car speakers and give you 75+ watts of RMS power. The 75 watts from this amplifier will blow away the 50 watts you see on your radio or head unit. There is no comparison.
If you are deciding between this amplifier and the R2-300X4, it will depend on your budget and the speakers you are using. If the speakers you have are rated at 50 watts RMS, you can step down and save some money, or give yourself some head room and go with this one and keep the gain/volume turned down. Both are great amplifiers, it just depends on what you want and need. For the price difference, we feel like it makes sense to step up to the bigger amplifier, the R2-500x4.
