The Rockford Fosgate X317-STG5 is designed to play loud, but also sound incredibly clear. The X317-STG5 is perfect if you don't want or need to broadcast your music. If you don't feel the need to be the loudest UTV out there, this kit delivers. The STG6 is going to significantly louder because of the 8" horn tweeter cans, but the STG5 is going to sound great and play louder than your ears can handle while inside or close to the vehicle. You just don't get the distance with the X317-STG5 that you do with the X317-STG6. The M2-65 front and rear cage-mounted speakers have a 1", PXNX tweeter that delivers the sound quality you expect from a silk-dome tweeter with the volume you expect from a titanium dome tweeter. You get fidelity and volume without sounding harsh.

The Rockford Fosgate front speakers are the M2-65B, 6.5" marine speakers with Color Optix RGB LEDs. These speakers handle 150 watts RMS and are among the most efficient 6.5" marine speakers you can buy. The PXNX tweeter is proprietary to Rockford and they won't say what it is other than, "It has the sound quality of a silk-dome tweeter with the volume of a titanium dome tweeter." These speakers are not just the old Punch marine speakers with lights. Rockford Fosgate completely re-designed these marine speakers to deliver maximum clarity and sound quality.

The speakers come with Rockford's Color Optix RGB LEDs. The wiring for both the speakers and the LEDs is integrated into the wiring harness and allows for plug-and-play installation like you expect from Rockford Fosgate. You don't have to cut, crimp, splice, terminate, etc. You plug the RGB LED plug into the speaker at one end, and you plug the other end of the cable into the PMX-RGB LED controller that is included with the kit. You control the color and mode of the RGB LEDs with the RF connect app on your iPhone or Android device. Simply download the app and connect to the controller via Bluetooth.

The M2-65B speakers also include two styles of grilles, both are black. You get the iconic, Rockford Fosgate stainless steel mesh grilles as well as the open-style, dual-six spoke grilles that are similar to most other marine speakers.

The rear speakers in the X317-STG5 are the same M2 6.5-inch speakers used up front. The cans are designed specifically for motorsports applications. You don't have this giant, wake tower speaker hanging off the back of your cage. Instead, these are smaller, more compact and will provide a cleaner look once installed. Now the 6.5" coaxial speakers can't hold a torch to the volume you get from the 8" horn tweeter speakers in the X317-STG6, but if you aren't broadcasting, it is going to be more than enough. The tower speakers come with Rockford's Color Optix RGB LEDs integrated into the front of the speaker and also have a 360-spinning "Diamond R" logo on the back that illuminates with RGB LEDs to match the color on the front of the speaker. You can index the logo on the rear so that it is "straight-up-and-down," regardless of the mounting angle. The speakers come with both grilles, just like the front speakers and allow you to choose bwetween the standard grille and the stainless steel mesh grilles.

The amplifier in the Rockford Fosgate X317-STG5 is the M5-1500X5. This is a compact, 1500 watt, 5-channel amplifier that delivers tons of power for both the speakers and the subwoofer. The M5-1500X5 is certified at 100W x 4 + 400W x 1 @ 4 ohms, and has a dynamic power rating of 125W x 4 + 400W x 1 @ 4 ohms. The dynamic rating is a true, real-world rating when play music, not just sitting on a test best. The M5-1500X5 is IPX6 rated which means that you can spray it down with a hose and it can get yet, you just can't submerge the amplifier.

The real advantage of the M5-1500X5 in the UTV kits is the pre-set switches. You no longer have to worry about tuning the amplifier. Rockford Fosgate has developed pre-set switches on the amplifier to automatically set the gains and crossovers at the ideal settings to optimize the sound quality of your Can-Am X3 stereo system. Simply set the pre-set switches to "On" and you are good to go.

This X317-STG5 kit includes two, under-the-seat subwoofers. Each subwoofer comes as a loaded enclosure with a 10 inch M2D2-10B subwoofer. The subwoofer enclosures feature a down-firing design to maximize output. The enclosures also allow for full, up, and down travel using the seat adjustment feature. Each 10-inch M2 subwoofer can handle 400 watts RMS. This is twice the amount of constant power that the previous subwoofer could handle. The enclosure design works under either seat. You don't need to worry about which one is for the driver's side and which one is for the passenger's side. Since the subwoofer comes pre-installed in the box, you don't need to worry about wiring the voice coils to the proper impedance. Also, this ensures that you get a good seal between the subwoofer basket and the enclosure. Bolt the subwoofers down using the factory attachment points, plug them in, and you are good to go.

Although the 10" M2D2-10B subwoofers come with the Color Optix RGB LEDs, they are not on the subwoofer because the grilles are not used. With the down-firing design, you wouldn't see the lights and the grilles would not fit.

This kit includes a PMX-3 marine head unit and the Rockford Fosgate X3 dash kit. The two combine to provide an OEM quality appearance in your dash. They also provide a user-friendly interface to control your stereo system. The PMX-3 head unit offers everything you could want from a UTV head unit. The PMX-3 comes with an AM/FM/WB tuner, Bluetooth, USB, AUX, and it is SiriusXM ready. Also, the PMX-3 has a video input and a reverse trigger wire which allows you to install a backup camera. The backup camera option is especially nice if you use harnesses and you're strapped in. Looking over your shoulder isn't easy. The PMX-3 has a full color, 2.7" TFT display and has an easy-to-use volume knob that is large enough to control while wearing gloves. The front of the unit has push-button subwoofer control to quickly adjust bass levels depending on the song and recording.

Rockford Fosgate updated the X317-STG5 and it now has the connections for the Color Optix RGB LEDs. The harness allows for everything to be plug and play. There is no cutting, stripping, splicing, crimping, twisting, soldering, or taping required. The harness for the cage-mounted speakers plugs into the main harness and works for both 2-seat and 4-seat vehicles.

The X317-STG5 is the best kit for you if you want the best, but you don't want or feel the need to broadcast. If you are at the hill or out on the trails and someone else has the X317-STG6, know that they will have the ability to blow you away from a volume and distance standpoint because of the 8" horn tweeter cans. Do you care? Are you that guy or gal that wants to be the loudest person out there or do you think that is obnoxious? If you want to be the loudest out there, go with the X317-STG6 because the cost difference isn't THAT much, relatively speaking. If you think of yourself in that situation and you don't care about broadcasting, or being the loudest car out there, or making sure everyone else can hear you, the X317-STG5 is the way to go. The X317-STG5 is a significant upgrade compared to the STG4 because the STG5 has the better speakers, a more powerful amplifier, and it has two subwoofers instead of one.
