View Kicker Comp R Subwoofer

The Kicker CompR subwoofers hit hard, handle significant power, and sound incredible. The Kicker CompR subwoofers deliver both performance and value if you want something that is a step up from the entry-level product. The 10" and 12" CompR subwoofers can handle 400 and 500 watts respectively, allowing you to put a good amp, to a good subwoofer, for the output that you want. When you look at the price points of the Kicker CompR to many other subwoofers that handle similar power, you will see that the CompR is one of the best values in all of car audio.

The Kicker CompRT is the low-profile version of the CompR. This is one of our best selling products and for a good reason. The low-profile design of the CompRT allows you to install subwoofers neatly under the rear seat of a truck, or you can install the CompRT in your trunk while still having plenty of space for storage if you need it. Shallow subwoofers have become very popular but many of them sound just that, "Shallow." The CompRT is one of the few exceptions. When you compare the power handling of the CompRT to the CompR and other low-profile subwoofers, you will see that these subs handle good power and they also deliver with the output. The CompRT is available in 6.75", 8", 10", and 12" sizes and it also comes in loaded enclosures with a passive radiator. If you are looking for an easy to install solution, the down-firing CompRT enclosures hammer and they hardly take up any space.

The Kicker CompQ subwoofers SLAM! When you look at the power handling and output of the Kicker Kicker CompQ you will notice that they can handle serious power for serious output, but they are also a great value. When you compare the 10" CompQ subwoofer to the Kicker CompR, they have virtually the same RMS power rating. The CompQ subwoofers are designed around sound quality and use the same design principles that deliver the performance on the L7, square subwoofers subwoofers. If you want a round subwoofer and you want the best that Kicker has to offer, the CompQ is definitely the way to go.

If you just need to add some bass, you are on a budget, or new to car subwoofers, the Kicker CompC is our favorite entry level sub. While the CompC is not Kicker's lowest level or absolute cheapest product, it is the one we recommend. The Kicker Comp costs $5-10 less, but it only comes in a single 4 ohm voice coil, the cone has some raised spokes which can create a "Knock" sound when the subwoofers are really hitting, and the CompC subwoofers handle more power. The two big reasons we like the CompC is the smooth cone which not only hits hard, but also sound good, and the single or dual voice coil options. The option for either single or dual 4 ohm voice coils allow you to wire your subwoofer(s) to a 2 ohm load if you run a single subwoofer, or you can wire multiple subwoofers to a 1 ohm load if your amplifier is 1 ohm stable. The Kicker CompC subs come in 8", 10", 12", and 15" sizes.

Truck subwoofer installations typically require a low-profile subwoofer. The CompRT is our favorite Kicker round subwoofer for these vehicles. If you have a single cab truck, you can fit a CompRT in a box behind either the driver or passenger seat. If you have a crew cab, you can use the low profile subwoofers to install 1 or 2 subwoofers underneath the rear seat without taking up cabin or passenger space. The CompRT subwoofers handle enough power and give you full size output from a thin-profile woofer. These are simply great, all-around subwoofers.

The Kicker L7S subwoofers are our favorite square subwoofers. These subs feature an aluminum basket to help dissipate heat and the square cone gives you more surface area to move more air, and give you more bass. When comparing the L7S to the L7R, the L7S subwoofers handle more power thanks to the aluminum basket versus the steel basket of the L7R. If you are paying up for a square subwoofer, the difference isn't that much, and we recommend the L7S. They will run cooler, last longer, and play louder

The Kicker L7T is the square version of the CompRT. These subwoofers sound amazing and hit hard. The low-profile design of the L7T allows you to install subwoofers neatly under the rear seat of a truck, or you can install the CompRT in your trunk while still having plenty of space for storage if you need it. When you compare the power handling of the L7T to the CompRT, the L7T is able to handle 100 more watts thanks to the extra surface area of the square cone. If you want to maximize the output of your vehicle, but you are limited in mounting depth, the L7T is the loudest, low profile subwoofer that Kicker offers. The L7T is available in 8", 10", and 12" sizes and it also comes in loaded enclosures.

The Kicker L7 subwoofers are Kicker's top of the line offering. These subwoofers have 20% extra cone area due to the square design, an aluminum basket, an aluminum voice coil, and Kicker's Uniplate technology that combines the pole piece and the back plate to maximize cooling. These are the biggest subwoofers that Kicker offers and they handle the most power. In addition, the L7 subs are accurate to give you hard hitting bass that isn't just noisy, but it also sounds good. If you want the best that Kicker has to offer, the L7 is the way to go.

If you are looking for the most affordable square subwoofers, the Kicker L7R is the best option. The Kicker L7R has virtually the same design as the L7S, but instead of an aluminum basket, the L7R has a steel basket. Steel doesn't dissipate heat as well as aluminum does, and therfore the L7R doesn't handle as much power. You are paying a premium for the larger cone with Kicker's square subwoofers, but if you are looking to get into a square sub and you want to keep your costs down, the L7R is the best bet. The Kicker L7R subwoofers come in 10", 12", and 15" sizes and there are several loaded enclosure options available as well.

The power handling of the subwoofer is one of the most important factors when determining the best Kicker subwoofer. If your amplifier puts out 300 watts RMS, an L7 or CompQ is probably not a good fit. However, if you have a 1000 watt amplifier, you want somethign that is going to handle some power to ensure that you don't cook your subwoofer and a CompC or even a CompR might not be enough. Keep in mind though that your amplifiers power is distributed among all of the subwoofers connected to it. For example, if you have a 1000 watt RMS amplifier and you have 2 subwoofers connected to it, that is 500 watts per subwoofer. If you have 4 subwoofers connected to it, that is 250 watts per subwoofer.

The larger, more expensive subwoofers that handle more power usually have a larger magnet, a deeper basket, and require more mounting depth. If you are limited on space, the best KIcker subwoofer is probably a product from their thin-woofer line such as a the CompRT or L7T. At the same time, if you have a full-size vehicle and a massive trunk, you probably don't need to worry about mounting depth as you will have the space for a large box.

However, just because you have the space for a large subwoofer box doesn't mean you necessarily want to devote ALL of your trunk space to your subwoofers. You may want to have both bass and storage space and there are several solutions from JL that will give you just that.

Every car needs more bass and while many might argue that there is not such thing as, "Too much bass," there might be, depending on the music you listen to and your personal preferences. If you listen to classic rock, which typically doesn't have a ton of bass, or if you prefer accuracy, a hard-hitting CompQ might be waaay too much. You can save your money, get a smaller, less expensive subwoofer and still enjoy your music.

It is important to take your budget into consideration when determining the best Kicker subwoofer. If you can't afford a higher end model, and you can't afford the amplifier to power it properly, you will be much better off with a CompC vs a CompR or CompQ. If you spend all of your budget on a CompQ, and you don't have enough left over to buy an amplifier to give it enough power, you have wasted your money.

The CompVX subwoofers are in between the CompR and the CompQ. These Kicker subwoofers use Kicker's raised spoke design and tend to be noisy and have a "Knock" when they hit hard. The CompR and the CompQ just sound better and play more accurate. The CompVX is significantly more expensive than the CompR, but pretty close in price to the CompQ. If you are spending up for the CompVX, you might as well just get the CompQ for a little bit more money.

Simililar to the CompVX, the Kicker CompVR subwoofers also have the noisy "Knock," sound thanks to the raised spokes on the cone. The price point of the CompVR is very similar to the CompR. If you want to step up to a better woofer than the CompC, the CompR is the way to go. The CompR sounds better and handles more power.

The Kicker Comp is Kicker's lowest end offering and the least expensive product that they offer. However, the Kicker Comp subwoofers only come with single 4 ohm voice coils. If you want to run a single woofer, you need to buy a bigger amp to get the same power output that you could get with the dual 4 ohm voice coil on the CompC. The CompC subwoofers sound better because they don't have the raised cone, the CompC subwoofers handle more power, and the CompC subwoofers cost virtually the same amount. If you are looking for bass on a budget, get the CompC over the Comp.

The Kicker CompVT subwoofers are shallow subwoofers that were designed to be OEM upgrades with Kicker's VSS products. These are shallow subwoofers that sound shallow. If you want a low-profile Kicker subwoofer, go with the CompRT or the L7T.
