The USA-240 and the USA-630 were the main two radio offerings from Custom Autosound for many years. Recently, they released the USA-740 and the Slidebar to now offer 4 products, but we will compare the two lower costs options to help you decide which one is right for you.
The Custom Autosound USA-230 is a direct fit, replacement radio that fits the original dash opening of most vehicles from 1940-1987. It offers modern radio features such as a light up alphanumeric LCD display, digital tuner, and Auxiliary input, while retaining a classic look.
The USA-230 has the following features:
The Custom Autosound USA-630 was their top of the line radio for many years until they released the USA-740. The USA-630 will also fit most vehicles from 1940-1987. If the USA-230 will fit your vehicle, so will the USA-630. There are no differences in fitment between the two models.
The USA-630 has the following features:
The USB port is located on the back of the USA-630. It can be used to charge your phone or to play a thumb drive with music in MP3 format. The USB port though will not allow you to plug in your iPhone or iPod to play media off of your Apple device. You will need to use Bluetooth or the AUX input to do that. If you want a USB port, you need to select the USA-630.
If you want to play CDs, go with the USA-630. The USA-630 CD-1 single disc CD player has a connection to power and control the CD player. The USA-230 does not have this connection or option.
There are two ways to do Bluetooth:
If you just want to stream your music from your phone to your radio, you can do it with either the USA-230 or the USA-630 and our 12V RCA Bluetooth adapter. This product, sold separately uses a 12V power connection and RCA cables to convert your AUX input into a Bluetooth streaming connection. This will not allow you to talk on the phone handsfree. There is no microphone.
If you want the ability to make hands-free phone calls, go with the USA-630 and add the BluKit (sold separately). The BluKit plugs into the CD changer port on the back of the radio and includes a microphone. This will give you the Bluetooth connection to make phone calls, have the other person hear you, and also stream your music from your phone to the radio. The BluKit does have a Y-connection so that you can use both the BluKit and the CD-1 CD player.
If you really care about sound quality, we recommend an external amplifier, but that's a whole other topic. If you just want to connect your speakers to your radio, the USA-630 is going to have more power than the USA-230. The USA-630 will just sound better than the USA-230. If you add an external amplifier, it doesn't matter and you can choose the USA-230, as long as you don't care about the USB, CD Player, or hands-free calling options.
