Chris McCrossan's car is a 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe
The '66 Mustang Coupe was purchased by McCrossan in Septemeber of 2019 as just a shell with an engine and transmission. The body of the Mustang was nothing but primer at the time. Most of the body work was incomplete, and there was no glass or interior at the time of purchase. The seller did toss in a pair of new rims and tires when McCrossman purchased the car. McCrossan is also working on a 1937 Plymouth restoration for his wife and needed a break. While McCrossan was hunting for Ford Falcons, he came across this car and made the decision to go for it. McCrossan thought it would give him something to complete over the winter months and something he could cruise around in the summertime.
McCrossan immediately dove into the bodywork. A friend of McCrossan's who owns a small body shop helped him paint the car in Shadow Gray Metallic paint.
While it was off getting painted, McCossan picked up a 1988 Mustang 5.0L and took it to a machine shop for work. McCossan built a 331 stroker with DSS Racing internals, forged pistons, Eagle rods, Eagle cranks, Trick Flow Twisted wedge heads, a Lunati camshaft, and Weiland Stealth intakte. When the Mustang came back home, McCossan rebuilt the entire fron suspension with Moog parts, Open Tracker upper control arms, Open tracker roller spring perches, Open Tracker roller idler arm, 1 1/8" sway bar with poly bushings, USCT Hot Rod torque boxes, Global West subframe connectors, Monte Carlo bar, Eiback progressive lowering springs, Shelby drop, and Bilstein shocks.
After that, McCossan decided to to bite the bullet and picked up a 2002 Mustang 4r70w transmission, US Shift Quick 4 electronic transmission control, Holley Sniper EFI, Holey Sniper Hyperspark distributor, MSD 6AL, Classic Auto Air A/C, and a B&M Magnum Pro Stealth shifter.
McCossan then added a TMI full-length center console with Kendwood Double DIN stereo, Mat 66 sound deadener throughout the entire car, and Neiko Thermal. McCossan then instaled headliner, glass, and had all of the chrome that was removable powder coated in black paint. McCossan swapped to LED headlights, re-upholstered the orignal seats with a black TMI interior kit, and added black carpet.
McCossan picked up Classic Car Stereo's kick panel and Kicker speakers fro the front, and Kicker 6x9" speakers for the rear.
McCossan swapped the original front drum brakes for slotted Kelsey Hayes style disc breaks, and a Wilwood master cylinder. The rear was also swapped to a 3.25 Currie Trac Lok, and McCossan added Global West lowering reverse eye leaf springs, Del A Lum bushings, and Bilstein rear shocks.
McCossan rewired the entire car with American Auto Wire classic update series and installed a fresh set of Hye Po gauges.
As you can see, this entire Mustang was built from the ground up, with only the engine block matching and paint completed at McCossan's friend's shop. The work on the restoration was complete at McCossan's garage over the span of September 2019 to MAy of 2020. The original plan was to build a cruiser car that had some *****. McCossan is proud that he has A/C, full electronic transmission crontrol with programmable shift paterns, navigation, and a backup camera. The Mustang cruises down the highway at 70 MPH around 2,000 RPM and McCossan let us know it will break the tires loose all the way into its third gear.
The final icing on the cake for McCossan was geting the car remote tuned by Mad Science Motorsports for maximum efficiency and power.
In McCossans own words, his favorite memories with the car have been "the look on strangers faces when I took her out for the first few cruises. Having my wife ride with me, just enjoying the world cruising along while strangers/kids shot thumbs up at the car and stopped at stoplights to compliment the build. It's been a fun build, that was 95% done solely by myself at home. I've been a Ford guy all my life, and have been inspired by tons of people on this build. It's been featured on Mad Science Motorsports facebook/instagram. It's getting ready to be featured on EFI Systems Pro website as well. Car is projected around 420hp, and runs on 91 octane pump gas. A restomod/pro touring build if you will".
