JL Audio W0 subwoofers are timeless and the gold standard when it comes to value-priced, entry-level subwoofers. These JL Audio W0 series subwoofers provide plenty of clean, hard-hitting sub-bass to fill out the bottom end of your music. The JL Audio W0 series is the go-to for many car audio enthusiasts when they are looking for affordable performance. For the money, you will not find a woofer capable of its output and power handling.
The JL Audio W1 series subwoofers offer value in the mid-power subwoofer market. These subwoofers use many of the same patented technologies as the other JL Audio premium subwoofers and are super reliable while limiting distortion.
The JL Audio W0 series subwoofer comes in three sizes, a 10", 12", and a large 15" model. The W1 series has subwoofer models in the 8", 10", and 12" sizes. Between the two, the W0 series gives you a bigger option when scaling up in size, while the W1 series gives you an option when scaling down.
All of the JL Audio W0 series feature a single-coil 4-ohm construction model. All models of the JL Audio W1 series also feature single coil construction, but feature a 4-ohm 8" model, with both 2-ohm and 4-ohm options in the 10" and 12" models.
All 10" and 12" models of the W0 and W1 series feature RMS power handling at 300 watts, while the 8" W1 model has RMS power handling at 150 watts, and the 15" W0 model has RMS power handling at 500 watts. Most of these options are relatively consistent between the two series unless you're using the smaller size flexibility of the W1 series, or the larger size flexibility of the W0 series of subs.
The mounting depth of the subwoofers can be compared with slight differences between the W0 and W1 models in the 10" range, but the 12" range is negligible. These depths should be considered when planning your installation or upgrade, but the numbers across both series of subs are relatively consistent.
The recommended enclosure size does reflect a bigger difference between the W0 and W1 models. The W1 models require a smaller sealed and ported size as compared to the W0 models and if saving this type of space is important in your installation, definitely look for the W1 lineup to play and advantage over the W0 sizes of subwoofers.
The recommended amplifier for your subwoofers will vary greatly depending on the size and quantity of subwoofers you select for your installation. The following lists are comparisons between amplifiers for subwoofers in the same dimensions between the different models. The list begins with a factory recommendation for amps that provide enough power handling for the subwoofer(s), and then move on to our professional recommendations that may vary slightly from the factory recommendations. These Classic Car Stereo recommendations may be an amp with a higher price point that will service the subs better or an amp that provides RMS power handling over the recommended amount which will allow you to not have to maximize the output on your amp to provide full power to your subs.
Sub: (Qty 1) W0 10"
For affordable performance, it's hard to go wrong with the JL Audio W0 series. However, for a relatively small increase, the W1 series offers improvement in a few areas listed above. If any of these areas hit the mark for you and your installation, the W1 series is a great upgrade option with a relatively small increase in cost to you as the consumer.
The W0 series of subwoofers are a great introduction to the JL Audio lineup. However, for a modest increase in your installation investment, the JL Audio W1 series of subs remain the better investment for your installation. The upgraded materials and technology in the W1 series is well worth the investment for your installation and edge out the W0 series in our recommendation between the two.
