The JL Audio W1 series subwoofers offer value in the mid-power subwoofer market. These subwoofers use many of the same patented technologies as the other JL Audio premium subwoofers and are super reliable while limiting distortion.
The JL Audio TW1 subwoofers are a low-profile, thinner version of the JL Audio W1 subwoofer line. The JL Audio TW1 offers very minimal front side or top-end mounting depth, making them perfect if you are tight on space underneath a seat, or if you have a down-firing enclosure. Compared to the TW3, the TW1 has deeper backside mounting depth, inside the box, if you will, whereas the TW3 will require more clearance on the outside of the box.
The W1 series has subwoofer models in the 8", 10", and 12" sizes. The JL Audio TW1 series comes in a 10" and 12" model, giving you a little more versatility for smaller 8" installations with the W1 series.
All models of the JL Audio W1 series feature single coil construction. The 8" model houses a 4-ohm coil. The 10" and 12" models house either a 2-ohm or 4-ohm coil inside. The JL Audio TW1 series also feature a single coil construction model. The JL Audio TW1 series features either a 2-ohm or 4-ohm coil inside. As far as differentiating between the two, The only real difference between coils here lies in the W1 lineup having a 4-ohm 8" coil.
The W1 series features RMS power handling at 300 watts in the 10" and 12" models, with the 8" model coming in at 150 watts. The JL Audio 10" and 12" models in the TW1 series have the same RMS power handling at 300 watts at both 2 and 4-ohms. Just like the voice coiling, the RMS power handling is the same here with the exception of the smaller 8" sub in the W1 lineup.
The W1 series of subwoofers see a slightly larger mounting depth than the TW1 series, but the difference is very close between the comparable sizes of both lines. If space-saving is a consideration in your installation, the TW1 lineup should be your first place to look.
The W1 subwoofers also see a larger recommended enclosure size over the TW1 series. The TW1 lineup starts to shine in this area featuring recommended enclosure sizes that are just over half what the W1 series lineup recommends. Again, if you're looking to save space with your installation, be sure to start your search with the TW1 series of woofers.
The recommended amplifier for your subwoofers will vary greatly depending on the size and quantity of subwoofers you select for your installation. The list begins with a factory recommendation for amps that provide enough power handling for the subwoofer(s), and then move on to our professional recommendations that may vary slightly from the factory recommendations. The W1 lineup does come in at a lesser cost to the buyer over the TW1 lineup but with the space-saving installation and upgrade in materials, the increase in cost for the TW1 line should be an easy decision to move forward with when planning out your project.
