The Kicker CompR subwoofers offer hard-hitting bass that is accurate and designed for sound quality. The Kicker CompR subwoofers are an updated version of the legendary CompVR. The CompR features a ribbed polypropylene surround. The cone does not feature the raised spokes that the CompVR has. As a result, there is less distortion from the CompR when it is hitting hard at loud volume. The CompR does not have the "knock" that the CompVR has. If you are looking for hard-hitting, accurate bass, the Kicker CompR subwoofer is a great choice.
The Kicker CompVR subwoofer line is the most popular among all of the Kicker subwoofers. The Kicker CompVR has been around forever and is a benchmark for performance among car audio subwoofers.
The Kicker CompR series comes in an 8", 10", 12" and 15" model. The Kicker CompVR series only comes in a 10" and 12" and 15" model. The sizing between the two series allows all but one of the sizes to stack right up against each other.
Both the Kicker CompR series and the Kicker CompVR series come with a dual voice coil. This coil is featured in both the 2-ohm or 4-ohm configurations across all of the models in the lineups.
The Kicker CompR series features RMS power handling at 300-800 watts at both 2 and 4-ohms depending on the size of the exact subwoofer. The Kicker CompVR series features RMS power handling at both 2 and 4-ohms in the 350-500 watt range across its models. When you're comparing the exact sizes, the CompR slightly edges out the CompVR models in the RMS power handling category.
Kicker's CompR subwoofers feature a top mounting depth that's slightly smaller than the comparable sized CompVR models. If space-saving options are required in your installation, be sure to check on the exact depth of the CompR models in your selected size when looking to save a bit of space.
When comparing the enclosure size between the two models, Kicker does list a variable enclosure size for both it's sealed and ported box volumes. Although the Kicker CompR and CompVR recommended enclosure sizes are very similar between same sized subwoofers, the Kicker CompVR subwoofers do extend to a bit larger recommended sealed box volume over the CompR sizing. Although, both of the recommended starting values are relatively the same.
The recommended amplifier for your subwoofers will vary greatly depending on the size and quantity of subwoofers you select for your installation. The following lists are comparisons between amplifiers for subwoofers in the same dimensions between the different models. The list begins with a factory recommendation for amps that provide enough power handling for the subwoofer(s), and then move on to our professional recommendations that may vary slightly from the factory recommendations. These Classic Car Stereo recommendations may be an amp with a higher price point that will service the subs better, or an amp that provides RMS power handling over the recommended amount which will allow you to not have to maximize the output on your amp to provide full power to your subs.

Since the CompR series of subwoofers is the updated version of the CompVR subwoofers, their price point is just slightly higher which is a reasonably acceptable charge for the upgrade in materials and construction. Spending the additional money and going with the CompR series would be recommended.
Kicker's CompVR subwoofers are a legendary subwoofer for the company and one of its best selling models of all-time. The CompR subwoofers came along and improved on an already great product and became the successor and upgraded model to the CompVR series. The CompR series features a better range of available sizes and better RMS power handling and should be purchased over the CompVR legacy model at this point. With its wide range of versatility at a great price point, we're confident you can find a great setup with the CompR series subs for any installation you have planned.
