Kicker CompRT Truck vs. Kicker CompRT Downfiring Subwoofer

Kicker CompRT Truck

The new CompRT® Subwoofer Enclosures make surprisingly strong, smooth bass in a box under seven inches deep. Whether its behind the back bench of your pickup, under a seat, or in your trunk, the CompRT sub box is a perfect fit. One amplifier connection later – you’re boomin! Kicker's engineers added a Reflex Subwoofer to our CompRT loaded enclosures, giving you even deeper, smoother bass in an incredibly thin box. Kicker builds their boxes as tough as Oklahoma. A thick black carpet covers a box made with thick wood and internal bracing for excellent durability.

Kicker CompRT Downfiring

The new CompRT Down-Firing Subwoofer Enclosures come loaded with a passive reFLEX™ subwoofer and KICKER CompRT subwoofers. These enclosures feature true, hard-hitting KICKER bass from a shallow-mount design, and they're loaded with a passive reFLEX™ subwoofer and KICKER CompRT sub. Covered in stylish black carpeting and built with thick MDF, these tough enclosures take serious power without taking up needed space. These subs are designed to resist stacking weight and take a beating.

Sizes

The Kicker CompRT Truck Enclosures come with either a 6.75", 8", 10" and 12" subwoofer size included on one side and the same size reflexive sub mounted right next to it. The Kicker CompRT Downfiring Enclosures come equipped with an 8", 10" or 12" subwoofer with the same size reflexive sub mounted right next to it as well.

Voice Coils

Kicker CompRT Truck Enclosures come equipped with either a 2-ohm or 4-ohm single coiled sub, while the CompRT Down-Firing subwoofers are equipped with a single-coil construction but only featuring a 2-ohm coil.

Power Handling

The Kicker CompRT Truck Enclosures feature RMS power handling from their subs starting at 150 watts in the smallest size and running all the way up through 500 watts at the largest. The CompRT Down-Firing Subwoofer is exactly comparable, but since it starts with the 8" model, the power handling begins at 300 watts and ends at 500 watts for its largest sized model as well.

Mounting Depth

The two separate enclosure types have the subwoofers already mounted, so in this category, it would be more helpful to look at the box depth at the top and bottom. The CompRT Truck enclosures are uneven at the top and bottom, featuring a larger bottom size. The enclosures have a much skinner depth compared to the CompRT Downfiring enclosures. The downfiring enclosures feature a constant width at the top and bottom. The CompRT truck enclosures should be considered first when looking at the tightest of installation spaces when comparing the two to see if it will be an applicable solution to your install.

Recommended Enclosure Size

With the two different lineups already being enclosed, there's no need to focus on the recommended sizes here. Instead, you'll want to focus on the overall dimensions of the boxes with the preinstalled subwoofers at their different sizes.

Recommended Amplifiers

The recommended amplifier for your subwoofers will vary greatly depending on the size and quantity of subwoofers you select for your installation. The following lists are comparisons between amplifiers for subwoofers in the same dimensions between the different models. The list begins with a factory recommendation for amps that provide enough power handling for the subwoofer(s), and then move on to our professional recommendations that may vary slightly from the factory recommendations. These Classic Car Stereo recommendations may be an amp with a higher price point that will service the subs better, or an amp that provides RMS power handling over the recommended amount which will allow you to not have to maximize the output on your amp to provide full power to your subs.

    Price Points

For comparison, the price points are the same between comparably sized models here. What we're focusing on between the two enclosures is really which type of enclosure based on size, dimensions, and enclosure location, will work best for your installation.

    In Conclusion

With the Kicker CompRT Truck and CompRT Downfiring subs, we're comparing two separate types of thin-line enclosures with the same subwoofers. Your selection here will depend on the space available for your installation since all other categories will be comparable to each other. If you're looking at an installation space behind a truck bench, the CompRT will be your best place to start. If your installation will work better under-seat or under-bench, be sure to start by looking at the CompRT Downfiring enclosures. One of these should work best for your space-saving installation where you'll be able to feature the amazing CompRT subs from Kicker.
